Since 1995, Raices de Mi Tierra has been active in preserving and celebrating traditional and Contemporary Mexican dance. Based in Sacramento, California the company tours the state and is recognized for its excellence internationally. Raices dancers and instructors have been featured in theatre shows and festivals in Oklahoma, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, and more. Known for its energetic works and commitment to excellence, Raices consists of veteran dancers and Folklorico instructors who have made a commitment to study and teach Mexican dance throughout northern California. Founded at the University in Sacramento, Raices has a mission to promote self-esteem, confidence and higher education to youth through the medium of dance. Each year, Raices organizes a tour of schools which brings the richness and beauty of Mexican culture to thousands of youth statewide.
In 2008, the Arts Business Council of Sacramento recognized Raices for its excellence in Arts Mangement. Celebrating 14 years of service in the community, Raices is a non-profit organization and a Cultural Arts Award recipient of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Raices is part of the Sacramento Cultural Arts Center which earned the non-profit of the year in 2008 from the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
