You Saw It Here First - the 2008 Festival Poster!
Our commemorative poster was designed by our fabulous art designer, Carlos Perez. Click the photo or click here to view a larger version.
The poster Carlos designed is a beautiful illustration of the creative theme selected by Linda Ronstadt for this year's festival: a celebration of the women of mariachi music and the canción ranchera. The process Carlos used involved an extensive search for vintage photos of the three divas whose memorable artistry will be profiled at our gala concert: Lola Beltran, Amalia Mendoza and Lucha Reyes. We were assisted in this process by Randy Carillo, music director for Mariachi Cobre, who will be joining Linda, Aida Cuevas, Lila Downs, and Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano at the concert. Randy has an extensive collection of historical mariachi record albums, and he loaned us several from which Carlos was able to scan images of the artists. From there, Carlos and his colleague, illustrator Juan Raul, hand painted the images to create a new original illustration. The style of the art work is reminiscent of vintage Mexican calendars and theatrical posters, which is exactly what we hoped Carlos' illustration would evoke.
These fine art commemorative posters will be available for purchase. Each poster will be custom printed to order on acid free paper. Framing is also available. To get information about pricing and to order yours, please call 1-877-MHCVIVA.
