Beginning Mariachi Workshops
Registration is now Closed.
Even if you’ve never picked up an instrument before, now you too can be a part of the educational workshops at the San Jose Mariachi and Latin Music Festival! Taught by Los Cenzontles Founding Director Eugene Rodriguez, this special 2-day Beginning Mariachi Workshop will inspire students to learn more about this wonderful art form.

Thursday, September 25, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Workshop 1
Eugene Rodriguez and Los Cenzontles provide an overview about the traditional mariachi and the role of tradition in our contemporary society. The presentation includes excerpts from their award-winning documentary Pasajero, A Journey of Time and Memory, as well as performance demonstrations of the elements of mariachi music and dance.
Friday, September 26, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm: Workshop 2
Eugene Rodriguez and Los Cenzontles provide an overview about the son Jarocho, the traditional music and dance of Southern Veracruz and the role of tradition in our contemporary society. The presentation includes excerpts from their documentary Fandango as well as performance demonstrations of the elements of son Jarocho music and dance.
